Internship Overview

The PSH Resident Engagement Intern will carry out projects that enhance the work of CS staff in Washington, DC related to ending homelessness. This will primarily entail executing projects aimed at improving the quality of life of formerly homeless residents at the Conway Residence, a 124-unit permanent supportive housing (PSH) residence located in downtown DC. The intern will organize social events, support direct service activities, and conduct resident outreach.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement resident initiatives, including:
    • Recycling program, monthly newsletter, voter registration drive, gardening initiative, computer skills training, consumer advisory board, etc.
  • Organize, facilitate, and manage budget for resident social events, including:
    • Cookouts, holiday parties, bingo, and outings (monthly)
    • Movie screenings, exercise classes, coffee group, etc. (weekly / bi-weekly)
  • Assist residents in identifying and connecting with outside resources as necessary
  • Support cross-sector collaboration among neighborhood, city-wide, and national-level partners working to end homelessness
  • Carry out other homelessness and supportive housing projects aligned with personal interests and the needs of Community Solutions’ staff in Washington, DC

Skills and Qualities Needed

  • Some college preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail
  • Proficient in file management systems including Google Drive and Dropbox
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage while being a strong team player
  • Passion for serving individuals with lived experience of homelessness

Internship Details

Hours: Part-time, 5-10 hours/week

Time Period: September 2018 - May 2019 (Academic Year)

Wage: $15/hour
