Job Overview:

Community Solutions (CS) is seeking a very detail-oriented and self-motivated contractor to support our our small but mighty General Operations (GenOps) team as a Finance and Administrative Assistant. The GenOps team strives to create an optimal environment at CS for our staff to grow, thrive, and work seamlessly towards ending homelessness and the conditions that create it. Over a 6-month period, the contractor will provide part-time assistance with bookkeeping, management of insurance policies, government compliance, and office administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and mail payments to vendors and assist with general bookkeeping
  • Process checks received and maintain checks-received log
  • Assist with “Thank You” letter and receipts to donors
  • Assist with invoicing clients
  • Reconcile credit cards on a monthly basis and code expenses to the appropriate cost-centers
  • Respond to and forward office voicemail messages
  • Provide financial and administrative documentation as requested by CS staff for government grants and contracts, real-estate work, and state charity registration
  • Administer, track, and assess insurance policies and payments
  • Assist with the financial management and operations needs of CS real-estate properties
  • Assist with managing the CS central office, including picking up and processing mail
  • Respond to special assistance requests as needed


  • At least 3 years of experience supporting a business (for profit or non-profit) with bookkeeping and accounting procedures
  • Extremely organized and attentive to detail
  • Good with numbers and using spreadsheets for financial purposes
  • Able to quickly learn and become proficient in new software and online applications
  • Good communication skills, both interpersonal and written
  • Passion for supporting efforts to end complex social problems

Salary Range:

Contractor will be paid $22/hour for a maximum of 16 hours/week or 70 hours/month for 6 months. The contract will be assessed at the end of 2018 to determine if assistance should be expanded or terminated.

Work Environment:

Contractor will work 2 days per week from the CS central office in Lower Manhattan and will occasionally be required to travel to Brooklyn office located at 519 Rockaway Avenue for periodic support duties.
