Be a part of this exceptional and transformative economic and community development team in Hartford, CT.
Community Solutions (CS) is seeking a summer intern to support our Inspiring Places Real Estate team’s work in North Hartford, CT. Community Solutions is a national non-profit organization that helps communities end homelessness, both by improving local housing efforts and by working in communities of concentrated poverty to change the conditions that make people vulnerable to future homelessness. CS’ Inspiring Places (IP) Real Estate team develops innovative and replicable models for transformative real estate development projects.
The centerpiece of our real estate work in North Hartford is a $35M, 80,000 square foot redevelopment of the Swift Factory, a former gold leaf manufacturing facility. The Swift Factory project is an adaptive reuse project in one of Hartford’s most challenged neighborhoods. The historic factory and surrounding campus is being transformed from a vacant and blighted structure into an economic engine for job creation and will be home to a Food & Wellness Center, Community Financial Business Center, and Cultural & Learning Center. The campus will house commercial kitchens and co-working offices and spaces housing organizations providing fitness, farming, community, arts performance, and learning opportunities. The project is pioneering in scale and scope. Construction on the Swift Factory began in 2018, and it is expected that the factory will open Summer 2020.
The Marketing & Graphic Design Intern will work on-site in our Leasing Office at the Swift Factory, alongside our Real Estate team. Your work will directly contribute to the success of this exceptional social impact project and your graphic design, marketing, and communication skills will be used to convey the story of the property, tenants, residents, and neighborhood. You will be working with a team that is passionate, and for whom this project is much more than a job.
The intern will learn about sales, marketing, public relations, event planning, construction, and community engagement in a very hands-on, practical way.
The intern will work full time; 40 hours per week, for 12 weeks, with a flexible starting date. If the intern’s school does not provide a stipend for internships, then CS will compensate her/him at $12/hr or minimum wage in the state/city, whichever is higher. The intern will have access to multiple training and educational opportunities throughout the summer.
